Trick or Treat… Chocolate Oreo Cookie Pumpkins

Trick or Treat… Chocolate Oreo Cookie Pumpkins

I LOVE this time of year! The beginning of Autumn…. Time to hang up the bikini and don on the comfies, ready for a snugly night on the sofa watching all of my favorite TV shows… Strictly come dancing (what a scandal this year hey!), X-factor (you know it’s the run down to Xmas when you hear THAT jingle), Great British Menu, Celebrity Masterchef…… Oh and my guilty pleasure, Housewives of Cheshire!

Harvest Time!

But more than that, it’s harvest time. I just absolutely love cooking with the harvest crop, so much abundance of fantastic food… In particular I adore the brightly coloured squash and pumpkins that adorn the fields this time of year, and I mean LOVE them… I warn you now there will be plenty of pumpkin recipes ahead… even those that don’t include any pumpkin at all…. a bit like this recipe…..

These little sweet bites are perfect for a harvest celebration or a sweet Halloween treat. What’s more, they can be made in advance and last for weeks, and they’re pretty fun to decorate too. Win win!

A Pumpkin With No Pumpkin…

WHAT, NO PUMPKIN?! Nope, not this time, just plenty of creamy, cheesecakey, chocolatey bites wrapped in sugar paste to resemble pumpkins! I love this recipe, not only is it so super quick to make, it’s obviously a sweet lovers dream and you can customise them to any occasion.

I use exactly the same recipe as I used for the NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE AND PEANUT BUTTER OREO BISCUIT CHEESECAKE BALLS  we made for the 2018 FIFA Football World Cup. But this time pumpkins were the order of the day!

Recipe Variations

You don’t have to make these with just chocolate Oreos…some of my favourites are:

Biscoff, (oh my gosh, these are amazing, OK, so these don’t have creme in them, however did you know they even have a spread version of these utterly butterly beautiful biscuits?! I really need to try it!).

Custard Creams – Just perfect!

Ginger Nut Creams or better known as Crunch Creams – I cannot wait to try these out, I think the buttery, syrupy biscuit with warming ground ginger spice make for a perfect autumn and winter treat.

Peanut Butter Cream Cookie – For that peanut butter kick!

Chocolate Bourbons – Absolute classic

The Humble Digestive – For that real, authentic cheesecake taste.

Hobnob– The Nobly Biscuit! One of my childhood favourites… They even do a gluten free biscuit version now too, all the buttery goodness without the gluten, fab!

Trick or Treat... Chocolate Oreo Cookie Pumpkins

October 22, 2018
: Approximately 12 Oreo balls
: 30 min
: Super Easy

Celebrate Autumn with these delicious chocolate biscuit cheesecake balls encased in sweet sugar paste. A fuss-free, super easy, and totally delicious no-bake treat, perfect for a harvest celebration or Halloween treat.

Ingredients
  • 2 Packets Oreo biscuits (24 biscuits) (I used 2 packs chocolate)
  • Half a tub Philadelphia cream cheese (approx. 140g)
  • Various colours of sugar paste to decorate
Directions
  • Step 1 Place one pack of Oreo biscuits into a blender and blitz until they resemble breadcrumbs
  • Step 2 Add the second packet of biscuits and repeat
  • Step 3 Add half a tub of cream cheese and blitz until all the biscuit breadcrumbs and cream cheese is combined
  • Step 4 Roll the mixture into balls – roughly the size of a golf ball
  • Step 5 Place ball in the fridge to firm up
  • Step 6 Decorate as up please and enjoy!

Can you make these gluten free?

Certainly! Just ensure you use a gluten free variety of biscuits…. The texture may be slightly crumblier, if so, just add a bit more cream cheese until the mixture binds together.

Can these be made in advance?

Absolutely! These are best made in advance  to ensure they keep their shape. If you keep these in an air tight container in the fridge they last for a good few weeks! If you can resist them that is.

Tips

  1. If you want to be really arty and make these nibbles totally authentic. you can blend the various colours of sugar paste (orange and green) to create different shade of leaves to give that real autumnal feel to the pumpkins.
  2. Pumpkins on their own are super cute and look just great, but what about a pumpkin patch!? If you really want to wow your friends and family then lets go one step further (come on, this is a wow factor treat. Simply crumble some dark Oreo biscuits onto a plate or board and ‘et voila’ there’s your soil… but lets not stop there, add your leaves from the tip above and then simply roll some green paste into strands, weave them through your patch, pop the pumpkins on and around your newly created patch.. and then simply ‘dig in’.
